Hi dear,
Diarrhea is a self limited infection. It is due to viral infection and antibiotics will not improve the condition. SO no need to give antibiotics. She will improve in two or three days. But till then you should prevent her from getting dehydrated. Give her lots of fluids as water, butter milk with salt, tender coconut water, rice kanji. Shops have ORS powder. Buy packets and dissolve one packet in one liter of water and give atleast 100 ml per loose stool. She should be passing urine adequately. As long as you are hydrating your child you need not worry about diarrhea. It will settle in few days.
Take care

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Is there any blood or mucus in the stool? Does your baby have fever?

Antibiotics are useful in a case of dysentery and not in a baby with simple diarrhoea as most of the loose stool are because of viral infections.

Zinc syrup prescribed by your doctor along with probiotics will be useful.
Monitor for signs of dehydration.
They include
1. Decreased skin turgor
2. Increasing thirst.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Irritability.
5. Drowsiness.
6. Decreasing passage of urine

ORS should be given to prevent dehydration

Hope this helps.
Take care.
