Child Suffering From Severe Weight Loss, Vomited Several Times. Blood Work Normal. Possible Reason?

My 8 year old niece has sufferred severe weight loss and recently just vomitted several times while not realizing what she was doing. They took her to the ER ans all blood work was fine. Do you have any suggestions as to what this might be? She has just been seen by an endorcynologist who ordered more blood work and referred her to a GI. thanks! Liz

Hi Liz,

Thank you for your query.

It is very difficult to give a possible reason to the problems that you have mentioned. However, the following questions need to be answered:
1. Over how much time has your niece lost weight?
2. How much weight loss has been there?
3. What about her appetie and diet? Has it been reducing?
4. Any history of fever?
5. Any history of vomiting earlier?
6. Any change in her behaviour lately?
7. Any distension of abdomen?
8. Why was an endocrinologist consulted?

I hope you will appreciate the importance of these queries. It would be better to discuss the problem with the treating doctor who may throw more light on the possible cause of the problem with your niece.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your niece an early recovery.

Regards,

RKK
