Child With Blood In Urine. Penicillin Prescribed. Symptoms Persisting. Why?
My grandson is 3 years old and is showing blood after urinating - he appears well and has energy, no temperature - prior to showing the bleed he had wet the bed twice which is not usual for him, and shown an urgency when he needed to pee. We saw a doctor and he was prescribed penicillin , but four days later he is still having droplets of blood following urination - we are very worried about this
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic,
Your child is having hematuria with the signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection.
You continue the medication as advised by your Pediatrician.
Give plenty of oral fluids to drink.
I advise to go for CUE, Urine for culture and sensitivity, Ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, and urine for protein estimation to rule out the other causes of blood in the urine. after discussing with your Pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query.
hi there, your grandson is suffering from UTI and you need to get his urine tested for the organism by doing culture and senstivity and accordingly start him on the antibiotic. Penicillin may not be working on the organism infecting him so the antibiiotic needs to be changed. If no organism is grown then may be you will need tovisit a nephrologist to rule out any other cause of blood in urine . For now get the urine test done and give him plenty of fluids along with syrup citralka to decrease urgency and burning. Take care.
