Child With Congenital Cataract, Was Diagnosed With Glaucoma. Is There Any Permanent Remedy?
Hi, my first twin Taiwo was detected to have had congenital cataract on the left eye at birth. He was operated on at 3months. We were told to come for intra ocular lens later. The boy is 9 years now. When we went back for the IOL, the right eye was suspected of glaucoma . My questions (1) what is the cause of the glaucoma and (2) can his eyes be corrected permanently? this is a case of congenital cataract in one eye.
the eye was timely operated upon. you have not mentioned about what kind of visual rehabilitation was given. have you used any kind of contact lenses or glasses for left eye. As there is always a great risk of amblyopia occurring these eyes. the children who have been operated for have a high risk of developing glaucoma. the eact cause so as to why glaucoma occurs in such children is not known many pro[psed causes are changes in the angle present since birth or that occur after the surgery, size of the eyeball microphthalia, post op inflammation, use of steroids in post op phase these are few proposed mechanisms. neverthe less your child is suspected to have glaucoma not diagnosed. the optic nerve , intraocular pressure should be monitored and if the diagnosis is made then a variety of medical or surgical treatments are available.
