Child With Fever In Nights, Hands And Legs Feel Colder. Suggestion?
My baby (4.5 year old girl child) has fever for the last 5 days, started on friday evening with 102 F, gave paracetemol, today is tuesday, the fever rises to around 100 at nights (around 2,3 AM) and is pretty normal (99) in the day. This has been the pattern since friday. She is actually in good mood, no fatigue and is also eating well. Cannot understand what is exactly happening. Another unusual observation is a much warmer stomach , her legs and hands are fairly colder.
It is very common that the peripheries are cold while the head, chest and abdomen are warm. It takes some time for the temperature to dissipate through the body.
In your daughter's case it can be viral infection or urinary tract infection. It will be advisable to get at least her urine examined and in case the temperature does not remain normal in the next day or two she should be shown to a doctor and fully evaluated.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
As your child is having fever since 5 days the ,evaluation with complete history, physical examination and basic investigations like complete blood picture, malarial parasite, widal test and complete urine examination to carried out to detect the cause of fever and for its proper management.
Continue paracetamol for fever as prescribes, give plenty of oral fluids and soft diet.
In children the trunk will be relatively warmer than the limbs during febrile conditions, but thermometer should be used to measure the temperature.
Consult your Pediatrician.
Hope i have answered your query.
