Child With Pain In The Leg. Gave Ibuprofen. What Else To Do?

My 9yr old daughter came home from school complaining that her legs hurt. I gave her ibuprofen and later I gave her acetaminophen she was ok in couple hours. She now woke up crying saying her legs hurt worse then before and it hurts when she swallows. I gave her more ibuprofen again but she is saying it is still bothering her. Should I take her to the doctor if she is complaining in the morning?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

It appears that your daughter is coming up with a viral infection and should be shown to the doctor. Viral infections do present with muscular pain which has got relieved by the pain killers given. Once the effect of the medicine wears off she starts complaining. The pain while swallowing may be due to a bad throat.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Any history of trauma?

Any swelling or redness in the legs?

Any history of running far distances?

Give ibuprofen in prescribed dosage every 8 th hourly for pain with food.

Physical examination by a doctor is important to look for any injury, tenderness.

Therefore I advise you to consult your Pediatrician for the examination and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
