Child With Stomach Pain, Fever, Vomiting. Took Tylenol And Motrin For Fever. What To Do?

My 17mo old daughter has vomited 1 time per day for the last three days. She had a low fever three days ago, and acted a little more tired that usual. Yesterday she had a rectal temp of 104. After giving tylenol and motrin the fever was reduced and she slept fine through the night. This morning she was a little quieter than usual, but perked up after her nap. This evening she seemed a little down again and had a rectal temperature of 102.6. She is not dehydrated, has been actively urinating and has wet tears still. She is eating a little and still drinking some. She points to her stomach when crying, which makes me think she has stomach pain. I m wondering if it could be Roseola or a stomach bug or perhaps something more serious. Thank you for any advise.

Hi ! There is no harm in deworming once. But the baby is running constant high temperature and is not well. If this continues she may land up in dehydration. There has to be some kind of infection in the body to have such high temperature. After consulting your doctor, please get her urine tested for any infection. Also he may consider doing some routing blood tests such as DC, TLC, Hb, smear for MP, PS, and also some tests for Enteric fever. Also the throat infections in a baby can give rise to such problems. Do not delay consulting your family physician specially for patients in this age group. All the best.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Your description suggests that your daughter is not dehydrated. (Passing urine normally, having tears etc)

A 17 month old having such high grade fever I feel that you should get her checked up by your doctor.

Does she have any cough?

Is she passing urine normally?

How is her stool?

Please reply in detail so that I can help you better.

Take care.
