Cold, Running Nose, Cough. Taken Polio Drops. Given Relent And Levolin. Any Side Effects?
Hi Doctor, My son is 11 months old, he is suffering from severe cold , running nose and cough too from past 4 days. Today morning he has been administered with polio drops by the volunteers (explained to them about the cold , wherein they said nothing to worry and also they said that they would not give polio drops to the kids suffering from fever). Before giving polio drops,I ve given him Relent+ drops and levolin syrup as per our doctor s advice. Now I need to know if any side effects will arise? awaiting your reply.... Sujata
Hello
Mild cold and cough is not a contraindication for any vaccination( including polio). Although there are some studies going on to see the effect of feeding in relation to polio vaccination. But none is conclusive. So to be on safer side its better to delay the breast feeding of baby if possible, as breast milk contains some antibodies which may interfere with the immunisation. But as far as medication( except immunoglobulin and immunosuppressant) is concerned it has no relation with any form of immunisation.
Regards
Relax there will be no side effect, continue with medication as advised by your doctor.
Polio drops are to be avoided only in case of acute severe febrile illness and severe gastroenteritis.
