Collided With A Runner. Hurts To Swallow. Could Tonsils Be Bruised?

Hello, yesterday I was playing softball and while playing first base, a base runner and I collided. My face went into his chest... At first, I thought I may have a bloody nose or lip, but there was nothing (a little dazed, but no blood). However, as the game went on, I noticed it hurt to swallow. My throat had somehow been involved as it is painful to swallow saliva, food, drinks, etc... I can breathe fine, voice is okay, I just have a sensitive spot by my tonsils (similar to a sore throat when sick). I am wondering if my tonsils may have been bruised in the collision? If so, is there anything I can do for them? Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for consulting to H.C.M.

I read your query regarding difficulty in swallowing after collision with your runner in a game and your face collided and went in the chest of runner. After some time you felt pain in swallowing your saliva, drinks and food. As you are saying you got sensitive spots on your tonsil.

On analysing your complaints it is clear that you are having traumatic inflammation which is giving you pain on swallowing, this may be in your soft tissue of neck. You are not having any problem in voice and breathing this indicates your larynx is o.k.

To treat it you should take-

(a) Anti inflammatory like Ibuprofen.

(b) Warm saline gargling.

(c) Avoid spicy food.

(d) Preferred liquid & semisolid diet.

I hope this will help you but even after above treatment your problem persists than consultation with ENT specialist will become necessary.

Regards.
