Constipated, Prescribed Codeine For Low Back Pain, Trouble Urinating. Is Constipation The Cause ?
Hello,
I have eben consti[pated for 3 days. I have just come off of Tylenol 3's with 30mg of codiene. I was prescribed this for lower back pain. I went into the emergency today and they have prescribed me stoll softner, and gave me 1 laxetive suppository while i was there.
My main concern is that it still hasn't seemed to take any effect on my digestive system. And i'm having trouble urinating. I am fairly active, and my appetite is still regular. I'm just wondering if this constipation could be causing troubles with my urinal tract, and how long it may take for the stool softner to take effect.
Codeine is know to have constipation and difficulty in passing urine as few side effects. There is nothing to worry. Since. you are on stool softeners, continue them and they will be effective in couple of days. The urinary problem may also be corrected in a couple of days when tolerance to it will develop. If the constipation continues and the urinary complaints still persist after couple of days, you can consult your treating doctor for change in dose of codeine.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
