Coughing Yellowish Mucus With Flecks Of Blood. Took Flexeril, Ibuprofen For Pulled Muscle, Bronchitis History. Cold Or Infection?
I'm coughing up thick yellowish/green mucus. Sometimes it has flecks of blood. And I have this weird burnt plastic taste after coughing. I recently pulled a muscle and was given flexeril and ibuprofen because my right side was seizing up. I have a history of bronchitis, but it doesn't feel like that, because I'm coughing in fits, but not excessively. Is this just a cold or could it be an infection?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. If I were your treating doctor for this severe cough with expectoration I would come up with these possibilities , these include. 1 Tuberculosis as there is large amount of expectoration with yellowish in color with greenish and blood in expectoration. Diagnosis can be confirmed X ray chest with clinical and physical examination by a physician. 2 As you didn't mention the duration of disease so very difficult to evaluate diagnosis but may be due to cancer if short duration. Diagnosis can be confirmed by Xray chest . 3 If you are a chain smoker then may be due to smokers cough with added bronchiectasis . Diagnosis can be confirmed by X RAY chest and physical examination as well sputum examination. Usually greenish phlegm may be due to yeast infection. In my opinion the best way is to consult a physician and get his opinion . Good luck. Dr. HET
