Could Adding Risperidone To Treatment Regimen Of Child With Bipolar Disorder Cause Weightgain?

Hi, I am the parent of a child with Bipolar disorder and there has been discussion of possibly adding Risperidone to my son s treatment regimen. I am a physician (radiologist) and what I recall is that it causes weight gain and gynecomastia. How common is this in children. Does it end up being a big management issue (their weight) for most patients on it? Currently our son is on Depakote and Lamotrigine and has some problems with having an appetite so it may be a moot point, but thought I would ask. Of course, I will ask our psychiatrist all about this, but stumbled upon this site and thought I would ask. Thanks, SS
