Could Being Bloated Be Related To Mirena Coil Implant?
I had mirena coil fitted on 15th Oct. Since then, I have bled constantly. Around the same time I became bloated and have had an upset stomach since. It's not my Ulcerative Colitis as scope, biopsies and stool/blood samples are clear, but docs reckon IBS. I'm no convinced. Any connection to Mirena??
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Bloating can happen with intra uterine devices including Mirena and it is due to the action of hormones contained in the implant. You can take antacid/anti emetic combination like Pantoprazole and Domperidone combination for symptomatic relief. Generally, these symptoms will settle in few days. If the symptoms are too severe that you cannot tolerate the device, it is better to remove it and plan for other methods of contraception.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
