Could Bleeding Through Skin Of Hands And Legs Be Due To Anemia?
Hi, i am an almost 70 year old woman --- I used to be anemic when I was having menstrual cycles. I have been living in Peru this past year at 8,000 ft. altitude and was just traveling in areas of 11,000 ft.
My recent symptoms are bleeding through my skin, mostly on my hands and arms, when I come into contact with almost anything (for instance, hoisting my backpack results in abrasions on my arms). I realize I need to find a doctor during my South American travels, but in the meantime could this be a symptom of anemia?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. No, this is not due to anemia. 2. It is related to skin thinning due to aging and age related vasculitis. 3. Any stretching, abrasions will cause subcutaneous bleeding, which will take longer to heal. 4. Apply moisturizer to skin or Vaseline. Take vit c and E and a protein rich diet. It will improve. Not to worry. Use skin protection. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
