Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, Yesterday I was given a perscription for a cyst on my back. The prescription was for Augmentin. I took one tablet last night. two hours after taking the tablet I was sick many times and suffering for diarrhoea. I still do not feel right this morning. Should I continue to take the tablets, or go back to my GP?
Yes, Augmentin can cause diarrhea. It is a common side effect. The diarrhea is not dangerous unless you have non-stop diarrhea and you are at risk of dehydration or low potassium from all the loss of stool. The diarrhea from Augmentin should be self-limiting. If you have blood, abdominal pain, or severe diarrhea, you should contact your GP. Otherwise, you can continue the Augmentin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
