Could Hard, Painful And Bleeding With Bowel Movements With History Of Having Piles Be Due To Intake Of Mirtazapine?

I have been put on mirtazapine in the last 3 weeks. Last week I ve experienced hard ,painful and bleeding stool movements. I had been treated for piles over 5 years ago..is the recurrence likely to be due to mirtazapine ..? Seen doc last week prescribed lactose. Soreness is at extreme sometimes after b.motion.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to hemorrhoids. There is a possibility that Mirtazapine can have triggered the symptoms. I suggest using an anti hemorrhoid cream for local application such as Preparation H. I also suggest soaking in warm water for relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
