Could Headache, Lightheadedness And Stiff Neck After Being Hit On Head Be Serious?

I collided with my teammate last weekend and I've never hit my head so hard. I've noticed I have been having headaches, light headedness when I stand up sometimes, a stiff neck/back pain, and it still hurts when I push the side of my head where I hit it. My parents don't think I have a concussion, but I'm kind of worried. What do you think?

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Your history is suggesting that you had head collision along with sprain of neck and back muscle. It happened due to sudden deceleration. Regarding possibility of concussion, it can not be ruled out. It can be suspected more if you had brief episode of unconsciousness. You have not mentioned it in your history. If it was there, you most probably had concussion.
You should not worry about concussion. It is a kind of mild head injury.
You can get relief by following simple steps

- Apply icepacks at pain and swelling site (if any)

- Avoid strenuous activities

- Avoid pressure at pain site

- Apply painkiller gel like diclofenac sodium over neck and back area.

- You can take painkiller medication like Diclofenac sodium/Naproxen after proper prescription.

If still no relief, consult doctor and physiotherapist to rule out muscle tear. You have to take rest for healing.
Hope it will help you.
Thanks. Take care.
