I have recently gave birth to a full term stillborn. When that happened all of blood work was normal. 6 weeks after I now have indication of hyperthyroidism. How do I know if I have post partum thyroiditis or Graves Disease? Could this have cause the death of my son before he was born?
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Both hypo and hyperthyroidism can affect the outcome of pregnancy adversely and cause still birth.
Regarding post partum thyroiditis and graves disease- it is difficult to differentiate between these situations. In my practice I use few investigations like anti thyroid antibodies, Ultrasound thyroid and technitium uptake scan to differentiate between these based on clinical situation.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
