Could Migraine Be A Side Effect Of Taking Microdantin For Urinary Infection?

I have just been prescribed MICRODANTIN 50mg capsules for a urinary infection. After taking the first one on Saturday morning I develped a migraine headache a couple of hours later. I took a second one & during the night I felt really poorly. Is this a possible side effect?

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, I would like to advise that you should discuss with your treating doctor about your headache.

Microdantin contains Nitrofurantoin which can cause feeling of increase in skull pressure leading to headaches.

You can take paracetamol 500 mg after meals along with an antacid like Omeprazole 40 mg once a day and Domperidone 30mg for relief from your symptoms.

I would advise that you should get your urine examined for Routine/Microscopic and Culture/Sensitivity and start appropriate antibiotic according to the report.
