Could My Green Stools And Tongue Be Related To Long-term Use Of Omeprazole Or Sertraline, And How Should I Address These Symptoms?

Hi, i have solid Green stools for weeks and now a green tongue for days. I have a digestive problem and acid reflux so took Omeprazole for a long time, when I stop the medication i have a back pain and when i took it for a long time i have a hard time to digest. I also took Sertraline for depression and panic attacks for 4 years now.

Sertraline can cause gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea, changes in appetite. Diarrhea, speeds up digestion and results in green-colored stools because bile doesn't have enough time to break down fully. Sometimes dietary intake like leafy green vegetables, foods with green food coloring, or foods rich in iron can turn stools green.

If food taken doesn't get fully digested before the stool is passed it may appear green in color. Green stool is not a common side effect of Omeprazole until there is some changes in the gut motility. Get Stool Examination (R/E & C/S) and urinalysis (R/E & C/S) done. Get clinically examined by a GP, get required blood tests, imaging tests done.

In the meantime, prefer to take boiled food for 2-3 months. Take homemade balanced well-cooked fresh food. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, do regular walking.
