Could My Tingling And Pain In Both Arms And Hands When Breathing Deeply Be A Symptom Of Neuropathy?

I’m being treated for what doctors think is neuropathy. I am currently taking 900 mg of gabapentin 3 times a day. Lately I’ve been dealing with tingling and pain in my arms and hands (both sides) when I take a deep breath and breathe out. Is this a symptom of neuropathy. I might add I also have NF1.

Hello,

You have a history of NF1. Neuropathy from NF1 or other factors, like cervical spine issues usually cause constant tingling or numbness. Tingling and pain radiating down both the arms are suggestive of nerve root or spinal cord involvement. NF1 can cause tumors or spinal changes. Bilateral pain and tingling in both the arms & hands should be taken seriously.

Get clinically examined by a NF1 specialist. Get an MRI of cervical/thoracic spine to check for nerve compression, tumors, or other causes. While neuropathy can cause tingling and pain, but since symptoms get triggered when breathing deep is indicative of spinal/nerve root involvement, thoracic outlet issue, or chest-related that needs to be ruled out by a Neurologist of NF1specialist. If needed, you may be referred to a heart specialist for routine check-up.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
