Could Numbness In Cheek, lip And Gums After Head Injury Be Caused By Concussion?
I got hit in the face and was knocked out for a second and right after my cheek bone swelled up and had a knot on it. And then I noticed my cheek, lip, and gums on the same side were numb. What does this mean? Also I fell down some stairs and hit my head on concrete and had a headache after, could I have a concussion?
I don't believe your symptoms are a direct consequence of brain concussion (which you clearly may have suffered if you were knocked unconscious for a moment) so much as they are of the blunt force trauma suffered by one of the branches of the trigeminal nerve that gives sensory feeling to the areas you mention.
The distribution sounds to be in a branch we refer to as V2 (maxillary branch) of the trigeminal nerve in the face.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
