Could On And Off Pain In Lower Back And Thigh Be Due To Onset Of Menopause?

I am a 47 year old woman, who recently, within the past month, have been experiencing lower back and thigh pains. Sometimes it wraps around from my lower back and into my left side region, but the upper thigh pain has been coming and going. It does not hurt to walk, actually it feels better to be in movement, versus sitting or laying. What could be causing this? My periods have been somewhat different the past few months? Might this be the onset of menopause? My mother had a hysterectomy at the age of 32, not due to cancer, so I am not able to judge the onset in my own case?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, with this presentation, I think the pain is probably from a degenerative joint disease caused by cartilage loss in a joint (osteoarthritis). Its rate of occurrence increases with age and it is more common in menopausal women but it is not a sign of onset of menopause. Changes in menstrual cycle is one of the early signs of menopause. Other signs may include vaginal dryness, low sexual drive hot flashes and mood changes just to name a few.
I hope I have answered your query
I wish you good health
