Hello,
Lamotrigine is a pregnancy category C drug. This means the usage of the drug is advisable only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Since the drug is excreted in the breast milk, breast feeding is to be avoided while using the drug. Therefore, you the neurologist advises the drug to be continued for another year, you may plan the pregnancy after one year. This is to avoid the risk of irregular treatment and the associated stress. Usage of the drug during the formative phase of the pregnancy and later during breast feeding is not indicated. Hope this helps.
