Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Sudden Dizziness And Blurred Vision Be Due To A Panic Attack?
I was taking a shower, and suddenly I felt very weak and I couldn t breathe. My vision went blurry and pretty much black, then I fell down. It happened twice in a row, the first time then after that I got up and continued my shower until it happened again. Today I ve only had a bowl of cereal to eat because I only woke up an hour ago. Could that be why? If not, could it have been a severe panic attack like I m known to have occasionally? Or something else? It was really scary, and it s happened before, plenty of times.
If you fell down repeatedly, then it is not likely to be a panic attack. In a panic attack there are several other symptoms such as you describe but one rarely, if ever, actually falls down. It could be due to several reasons including sometimes inability to maintain blood pressure while standing. You should see a doctor to find out the reason for your falls. The doctor will take your history, check your current medications, check your BP (lying down and standing), check your heart (get an ECG), may order a few blood tests and then suggest remedial measures. I hope this answers your question.
