Could Swelling And Soreness On The Knuckle Be Symptoms Of A Spider Bite?

I have a swelling in, and around my left index knuckle. I had thought it may have been a Cactus needle or a splinter as I had been working outside. But I semi-lanced it with tweezers and could not find anything in there. It has been five days and now it is so sore as that I cannot move it laterally. I can almost close that finger into a fist, but not all- the - way without shooting pain. And the swelling appears to be heading towards the knuckle at the center of that indext finger. Could it possibly be a Spider bite ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Swelling in the knuckle and sore Ness may be due to rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis or gouty arthritis or viral Fever or it may nerve injuries etc. Where is the spider bite? In case of few spider bites it may lead to allergic reaction and swelling. Use pain killer , take rest, check for RA factor, serum uric acid levels. Use tablet ultracet twice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
