Could Taking 40 Thyronorm 100 Mg Tablets After Expiry Date Cause No Menstruation?

I am on thyronorm 100mcg for the past 5 yrs and my TSH was always 1.414. I get my periods regularly. But the past month I didnot get my period and checked with a gyno for any pregnancy. The blood test shows no HCG is detected. But then i found that the tablet had expired one month before(expiry date: dec 2013), and i have been using around 40 expired tablets. Would that be a reason for my absence of menstrual period or will there be any other cause.?

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

The chances of using expiry date Thyronorm as the cause, is highly unlikely. My experience says that most of the drugs remain equally effective long after their expiry date.

If TSH has not been done in the recent past, get it repeated to see if the dose of Thyronorm needs revision. If TSH is stable and same as the previous values, hemoglobin (to exclude anemia);and, Estrogen, Progesterone and Prolactin estimation should be carried out to find the cause.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me and will prescribe the advised drugs in appropriate doses.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
