Could Taking Coconut Oil In Diet Affect The Effectiveness Of Warfarin?
I am taking warfarin, and I am 90 years old. I want to take coconut oil, as my daughter is a nutritionist, and would like me to take it, but wants me to check if there are any interactions between the two. I have my INR checked often, however i would like to include coconut oil in my diet. I have read quite about the benefits. I respect your opinion on this matter.Thank you, Paul Stern
There is no proven drug interactions reported between Warfarin and coconut oil.
However, if you are planning to introduce coconut oil in your diet, I would advise you to monitor the efficacy and safety of Warfarin in your body by getting your blood INR and Prothrombin time tested periodically. You may need to consult your doctor for the same.
The following foods are reported to have harmful interactions with Warfarin such as cranberry juice, grapefruit juice and foods containing large amounts of vitamin K such as liver, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and green leafy vegetables.
Hope this answers your query.
Kindly rate this answer, if you are convinced. Be healthy, good wishes.
