Hi, I started clarithromycin yesterday evening & took one 500mg tablet & have taken another 50mg tablet tonight . My Dr prescribed a 7 day course for breast pain & under arm pain & jaw & neck pain. I also may have cystitis or uti as running to toilet a lot. I m not sure if i ve a tooth infection also. I do not feel a bit well...& burning up & feel sick. Hello,

Clarithromycin is commonly given for infections of tonsils, sinus, ear, nose, etc. Since you were having pain in jaw & neck pain, your treating doctor might have prescribed the said medicine, Clarithromycin. Keep yourself well hydrated as Clarithromycin causes dehydration. Yes, the symptoms you are describing could very well be side effects from clarithromycin.

For UTI, get clinically examined by a urologist, get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done. If you feel severe burning, flushing, rash, shortness of breath, or rapid heartbeat, stop the medication, go to ER urgently as you need urgent care.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
