Could The Knee Problem And Swelling In Feet Be Due To Amiodarone?
Hi, my doctor put me on amiodarone 200 mg. I had a pacemaker put in for my irregular heart beat, now I am having trouble with my knees when I am at therapy. I ve never had any problem before now. Could the amio. be causing this? I ve also had swelling in my feet. My email address is YYYY@YYYY Thank you.
hi thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. knee problem and feet swelling are not likely side effect of amiodarone but it may exacerbate few condition which may cause this symptom. you can check your self one thing, press on the bony prominence of feet at ankle joint with your thumb for 15 sec and see if there is any pitting is forming. if yes then this could be congestion in heart muscles or some kidney related problem. if any of the case is there then you have to take diuretic medications if you are already taking it then it may need to increase the dose. i would suggest you to visit your consultant you may need to examine for it, you will need ecg again, serum creatinin test, urine albumin test too. treatment varies according to findings present. if you have not been screened for diabetes then please do it. i hope i answered your concern and if you feel any doubt please ask us regards dr. abhijit
