Could The Pain In The Back Be Due To Possible Fluid Around The L3?

My 15 year old son 5'7", 160lbs, has been complaining of back pain. My son is extremely active in sports. We took him to the doctor who ordered a bone scan because he suspected a stress fracture in his lower spine. The result we inconclusive about a stress fracture but the doctor mentioned possible fluid around the L3. What does this mean and what could be the cause?

Dear father
Your son is active in sports which increase susceptibility of stress fractures of spine and limbs and less to back pain. Bone scan report is inconclusive so I would advice to fit MRI of involved region as it is more sensitive and specific for diagnosing not only stress fracture but other spine problems like disc prolapse and spondylolysis. Mild fluid around l3 may be dur to inflammation. Kindly get MRI done.
