Could The Severe Pain In Metal Plate Inserted Knee Be Due To Excessive Alcohol?

My husband has a knee that has a lot of metal in it due to snowmobiling accident . In the last year he is experiencing a lot of pain under and along side of his knee. He also has been having bouts of gout in his foot . Could the knee pain be attributed to his excessive drinking of liquor . I have heard that a lot of alcohol can cause gout. Could it also cause pain in his knee? He has tried various braces and medications plus some topical preparations. All of them work for awhile but the relief is fleeting

Hello madam,
I have studied your husband's case and I think this knee pain is due to metal . Gout can also cause such pain. But when it is due to GOUT than it causes severe pain and along with pain there is red, hot inflammation. Alcohol can increase serum uric acid level and that can cause such pain.
I would recommend you to get x ray of the knee joint, and than serum uric acid level. You can share these investigations with me. If there is so much pain than I would recommend you to remove these metal plates as they make bone weak. Also ask your husband to avoid alcohol, and red meat and pulses. I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
thanks.
