Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Since your symptoms are of an acute onset, they are most likely to be due to an infection of the tonsils. Cancerous lesions usually evolve over time and do not show such rapid progression. Please consult a doctor as you would need a course of antibiotics. Please do not worry, but do give a thought to quitting smoking for good.

Best wishes.
