Could The Sore Swollen Tonsils In A Smoker Lead To Cancer?

i have smoked off and on for a period of a year, on quite a lot of them i didnt inhale, my glands are swollen, my tonsills are red rore and i have had the symptoms for two days, i have previously had symptoms of a cold, but now my throat is so sore i cant swallow my saliva! could this be cancer, or am i just paranoid?

Hi,

Since your symptoms are of an acute onset, they are most likely to be due to an infection of the tonsils. Cancerous lesions usually evolve over time and do not show such rapid progression. Please consult a doctor as you would need a course of antibiotics. Please do not worry, but do give a thought to quitting smoking for good.
