Could Voilent Hiccups And Large Production Of Pleghm Be Due To Extreme Alcohol Consumption?
My husband experienced violent hiccups and very large production of phlegm after two bites of dinner. He was absolutely intoxicated and is a daily heavy drinker. I thought for sure I was going to have to call 911. It subsided after about 45 minutes. I did call his physician and he felt it was from gastric juices. As far as i know he had no stomach pain. He sounded like he was gurgling from all the mucous, but he could speak and swallow water. I'm extremely concerned about his alcohol consumption. Could you shed more light on this for me please. Thank you!
As your doctor rightly said, it was due to irritation of gastric mucosa. Solution is he should quit alcohol.however I can understand how it is difficult for him as well as for you to convince him for deaddiciton. If possible make an appointment to psychiatrist/deaddicition specialist. If he is not ready to come, you can go alone.Evaluation can be done that how he started so much alcohol, which are stress, genetic, social and economical factors and how he can be convinced to quit. As he is heavy drinker, his liver must be affected until now up to stage of fatty liver. so if he is ready for sonography(ultrasound)by showing reports of that he can be motivated to quit. And in my opinion his treatment for deaddicion should be done indoor.
