Could Vomiting, Diarrhea, Cramps And Chills After Eating Mean Food Poisoning?

My 14 year old son and I both ate at the same restaurant but ate different foods. Within about 8 hours, we both became severely ill - vomitting, diahrea, stomach cramps, chills, sweats, weakness. I feel sure it must be food poisoning, but we didn't eat the same thing. Will this just run it's course or should we go to the doctor? We've been trying to drink plenty of fluids but even fluids seem to come right back up.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems to be food poisoning, severe symptoms can only be managed in hospital on an indoor level, and dehydration needs to be taken great care.

If the vomiting is severe, then it has to be managed with injectable therapy IV fluid is the must. If the symptoms are not severe, then it can be managed with oral antiemetic like Ondansetron tablet.

Still, great care needs to be taken for hydration, but better to see the doctor for safe side, water could be the cause (water born infection), and not the food hopes this information helps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
