Could You Suggest The Medication For Loose Motion For A 3 Year Old?
Hello Doctor,
I have a 3 year old girl child. She is suffering from continuous loose motions. She had all junk food from outside. We stay in a joint family with many small kids there at home. since, the place was untidy, and due to her food habits, she got this. I want to give her a medicine to stop her facing this pain.
She is feeling scared because of this. Please advice a medicine to help her. Last time, when we had the same issue, The doctor has prescribed a sachet of live bacteria. It helped. But, we stay in a different place now and I forgot to keep safe the prescription. Kindly guide me how to help her.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
Monitor for signs of dehydration. They include 1. Decreased skin turgor 2. Increasing thirst. 3. Sunken eyes. 4. Irritability. 5. Drowsiness. 6. Decreasing passage of urine. Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given. Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful. You should consult your doctor at the earliest for a complete physical examination. Your doctor may order certain investigations based on the physical examination findings. Further management depends on the diagnosis made and dehydration assessment by him. He may prescribe antibiotics if he makes a diagnosis of dysentery. So consult your doctor for a examination to identify the cause.
In case of further dehydration the child requires Intravenous fluids.
