Delayed Periods After Getting Third Shot Of Cortisone Steroid Injection In Wrist. Side Effect?
Hi,
I just got a cortisone steroid injection in my wrist for the third time about 1.5 weeks ago. I was due for my period 2 days ago but so far I have not gotten it (nor do I have any symptoms of period pain -- My ankle usually starts hurting about 1-2 days before my period is due). I'm usually regular, I get it exactly on the day I expect it. The first two times I got the cortisone injections, it didn't affect my period at all but could this time be affecting it? Will it be late or will I miss my period completely this month?
It is atypical for steroids to be responsible for menstrual changes. I for sure don't know why the menses have delayed this time around but waiting a little longer to understand what has happened could be helpful. If you are so sure that you are not pregnant and cannot be pregnant, then I will suggest that we wait and see what happens. Waiting up to the next expected dates of menses would not be a bad idea unless something else happens.
I hope this helps and guides you. Feel free to ask us more questions and thanks for using our services. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD
