Delayed Periods, On And Off Brown Discharge Turning Dark Red Blood. HPT Negative. History Of Taking Plan B A Month Back. Side Effects?

I took Plan B exactly one month ago, and am now 2 weeks late. Last week I began experiencing off/on dark brown discharge. In the past day it has turned to a lot of dark red blood but only when I wipe, and is not flowing down to liner. Have taken 2 pregnancy tests at home (1 last week, 1 this week) and both have come back negative.

Is this caused by the Plan B!? Help!!

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what has been happening to your periods and the discharge you are having lately.

Hormonal pills usually cause a slight change in the normal cycle rythmn which can present with delayed periods, spotting, absent menses etc. This will sort itself out sooner than later. If 2 successive pregnancy tests are negative, then the chances of you being pregnant are very very small. These symptoms are probably due to the plan B and it will sort itself out over the next periods unless otherwise.

For now, i will like to suggest that you adopt a wait and see approach. These symptoms should subside within a week. Then wait for the next cycle whenever it shows up.

Please, Plan B is not the ideal method for contraception. That is why it is called plan B(backup). I will suggest you consider to meet and discuss the various contraceptive options possible for you with your physician. Also, i will like to remind you that unprotected sex also exposes you to infections beside unwanted/unplanned pregnancy.

I hope you find this helpful. Please, feel free to ask us more question if they do come up.Thank you so much for using our services and hope you do when the need next arises.
I wish you good health.
