Delayed Periods, Polyp In Cervix, Ovaries Are Dead Need To Be Removed. Pros And Cons Of This Procedure?

I m a 56 year old woman with my last menstrual period 2/2011. I still have hot flashes that are manageable. At my annual doctor s visit I was told I had a polup (sp?) in my cervix that required removal in the hospital and at the same time I should have my ovaries removed also. He said my ovaries are dead now and to prevent ovarian cancer in the future, he recommends their removal. What are the pros and cons of this procedure?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The removal of ovaries involves all the risks of a major surgery. You can avoid the surgery and be sure to have annual check to rule out the development of any cancer in the future.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
