Developed Abscess In Armpits. On Vitamin C Dosage. Taken Ultrasound, Blood Count. What May Be Wrong?

I have been outside in 105 degree plus weather for five weeks; helping landscapers and rock masons in my yard. I developed a large abscess under my armpit. It seems to be improving with high doses of vitamin C. Does an abscess always have to be surgically removed. I am scheduled for an ultra sound and a surgeons appointment next week. I really don't want to go through all that if it isn't necessary. My blood count is normal; but my sed rate was off just a little. Thank you
