Diabetic Child Having Large Painful Canker Sores Around Tonsils. How To Treat It?
My son is 8 years old and is a type one diabetic. In the past 4 months he has experienced large canker sores on and around his tonsils. They are very painful. We do not know how to stop them from reoccurring and make him comfortable while they heal. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your question. Type 1 diabetics have problems healing wounds, especially when their glucose is not in good control. I would suggest that he have a visit with his physician to discuss home monitoring of his blood sugar. In the meantime, avoiding acidic foods and beverages and Tylenol dosed for his age and weight may help ease his pain.
