Hello, Myelomalacia mostly occurs as a result of injury and results in softening of spinal cord and this happens because insufficient blood supply to spinal cord. Elderly people are more prone for this disease because of reduced bone density although it can occur in young sportsman also. Cervical myelomalacia can cause various symptoms like Pain in neck Numbness or weakness in upper and lower extremities Paraesthesias in upper limbs Gait difficulties etc. It can be fatal if respiratory system gets involved. Treatment is aimed at reducing further damage and consists of spinal cord surgery or steroids. You must consult a neurologist for proper examination and plan for further treatment. Thanks
