Diagnosed Far Sighted, Using Progressive Lens, Trouble Reading And Working On Computer. Is It Normal ?

Hi I was wearing progressive lens only for last 6 months and before that just reading glasses. I was diagnosed as far sighted by doctor. Suddenly within last few days I had trouble reading and working with computer. I got it checked with the doctor and my power has increased slightly. Now I have +2.5 spherical on my left and +2.25 on my right eye. I only comfortable with prescribed glasses. The simple reader does not help anymore. Is this NORMAL?

Hello Vinod,

Being far sighted ( hypermetropic) , you will need glasses compulsorily for near vision. The simple reader will never help you as your requirement for near would be over and above the distance correction( that is why it is called near addition). Since you already have a plus correction for distance, the near correction would much higher ( corresponding to your age). But you have to keep in kind is that near correction does not change as frequently as every 6 months( never in days). So if you have had to change your progressive glasses within 6 months then it is better to consult an ophthalmologist for verification and to rule out any fluctuating blood sugar levels ( if this was never done in the last 1 year then blood sugars must be done), get the intraocular pressure checked ( normal range is 10-20 mm of hg). I hope that should clarify your doubts. Have a happy festive season.

Hello

You should use the prescribed glasses and not simple reader. If you are above 40 years of age, you should use bi-focal glasses preferably.
