Diagnosed Glutimous Maximous Tendonitis, Received Cortisone Injection. Red Hot Face, Breathlessness. Side Effect?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with glutimous maximous tendonitis and two days ago I received a cortisone injection from a doctor, into both sides. Side effects were not discussed although I am experiencing great relief from the pain in my hip area I awoke two days later with a very red, hot face and slight breathlessness. I'm assuming this is just a temporary reaction, if, in fact, it is a side effect I'm experiencing.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Though a steroid shot is given locally at the site of inflammation, a small amount of corticosteroid enters the blood stream producing minor systemic side effects.

Facial flushing and redness is seen in 10% of patients receiving steroid shots. These adverse reactions may begin within few hours after injection and may last for a few days.

Generally, these are self limiting and no specific treatment is necessary.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
