Diagnosed With DCIS. Calcifications In The Milk Ducts. Need Treatment?
I have a just been diagnosed with DCIS. A 4.7 X 4,7 X 3 mm microcalcification was removed. what size is this in inches or relative terms? No family history of breast cancer. nothing can be felt, I was told no mass only calcifications in the milk ducts. No invasion identified. what is my future diagnosis or expectations?
Dear Madam, You have been diagnosed to ductal carcinima in situ which is a non invasive form of breast cancer, which is very small 0.4cmx 0.4cmx 0.3cm(probably screen detected). You should have undergone a bilateral mammogram to make sure that this is the only focus of cancer present. The tumor should also be subjected to immunohistichemistry to determine the hormonal status. Discuss with your treating physician about radiotherapy. You should do well in the long run.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
