Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a painful tear, or hole pretty high above my anus. It is terribly painful and it smells horrible. I am terribly constipated due to medications I take. Years ago I had growth in the shape of a spoon attached to my anus and the outter skin. It was chronic and surgically removed. The doctor diagnosed it as a fissure or fistula. Do you think this hole could have anything to do with either the constipation or the growth that was removed? Thank you
These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths. If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss. Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help and consult proctologist if necessary I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
