Diagnosed With MS- Several Lesions Are Hypo Intense On T1

Hi, My name is Steven. I have had MS for about 25yrs now. On approx. Sept. 2010 the results of my MRI were stated in part as, Several lesions are hypointense on T1. Also, there are lesions @ C3-4, C4-5 and C5-6. Fast forward to today... COULD an excerbation in these areas couse me to have symtoms of numbing in the face and tounge/mouth, loss of executive thinking?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello Steven!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the brain lesions could be responsible for the numbing in face and tongue or mouth.
But, it is necessary to performing a contrast enhanced MRI study in order to investigate for active plaques of MS. Another sign of the activation of the disease (and thus need for steroids) would be the increased signal in diffusion series of MRI study.
You should discuss with your neurologist on the above issues.
Kind regards, Dr. Aida
