Diagnosed With Coxsackie Virus, Recovering, Has Crushing Pain In Chest On Drinking. Cause?
My 17 year old son was diagnosed (by observation of mouth sores/blisters and ruling out of flu , mono, strep ) with coxsackie virus about 6 days ago. His sores are healing , his fever is gone, his energy level is up, but he continues to have a crushing type of chest pain that is bothersome when he drinks anything. He has not be able to take in solid foot yet due to sore gums & blisters still on the tongue plus the chest & upper abdomen pain. Can you exlain the chest pain and what can be done about it? E. F. Greenville, SC
Hi E.F, welcome to HCM. Coxsackie virus infections are associated with a condition called as pleurodynia where there is stabbing or crushing type of chest pain with upper abdomen pain. But this pain is self limiting and will reduce in few days. You can get in touch with his treating doctor if pain is very severe. Fluid diet can be continued and allow the healing process to take place.Viral infections take their own course to heal. Thanks.
