Diagnosed With Cpod, Emphasyme, Scan Showed Bubbles Of Emphasyma Thoughout Both Lungs With Scar In One. Cure?

wow, i didn t know this existed! i am a sixty yr old (today) man who has just been diagnost with cpod; emphasyme. my scan showed bubbles of emphasyma thoughout both lungs. But also a scar in one, the doctor who did the scan said that was worrisome. But that is all he said. I am waiting for a blood test to check heriditary possabilities. I ll get that in a week then I ll see the pulinary dr. I have smoked a pack a day for forty years, and probably too much dust and fumes on occasion. why is this scar worrisome and what is the prognosis; I think the spiro exam said I was at GOLD ll I can t afford this, sorry to have troubled you. wish the fee had been stated up front

Thanks for your question.
You are having COPD that is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which is combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. In UK called as COLD. You are having predominately emphysematous type. Smoking is primary cause. Less common cause is genetic deficiency of alpha -1 antitripsin .It is destructive disease of lungs, in which alveoli (small sac) that promotes oxygen exchange between the air and blood stream are destroyed. Air is trapped in alveoli and not available for diffusion into blood stream. Scaring is due to healing after destruction and this is course of emphysema. There is nothing to worry as malignant changes don’t develop in this scar. It does not affect quantity of life but quality of life. Drugs are available to preserve functions of daily activities and qualities of life. Stop smoking consult a pulmonologist along scan with spirometrery result .He /she will give a management plan.
