Diagnosed With Diabetes. Reduced Weight, On Low Carbohydrate Diet. Should I Be Concerned About Taking Too Much Protein?
Recent diagnoised with diabetis. In three months lowered my weight from 225 to 197, low carbs more protein, smaller portion size. Been to encronolygis, my blood glucose at ER was 468, now avg 120. Q: would there be a concern that I could be eating too much protein? I do eat brocolli, green beans, occational caserer salad but all in small amounts. I try to keep a slight hungary feeling to keep sugar level down.
Hello,
Proteins are restricted in diabetics who are suffering from chronic kidney disease ( CKD ).
You must get your kidney function tests done to look for any kidney functions anomaly.
If your kidney functions are normal, then there is no problem regarding your protein intake.
You have done really remarkable by reducing your weight and bringing down your very high blood sugar levels to normal levels. However you must keep on carrying this good work by keeping your weight in required range of BMI and also observing strict dietary precaution.
You must keep on getting your blood sugar testing done regularly.
The moment you find that your blood sugar levels are getting haywire in spite of your dietary restrictions and reduction of weight, dont hesitate to consult a doctor and start oral anti diabetic drugs.
It is very important to keep blood sugar normal to avoid future micro as well as macro vascular complications.
Thanks
